Indian regional comfort food
“Unique”. “Charming”. “First of it’s kind” “Pet friendly” are some words that begin to describe this new poolside restaurant of Hotel President. Here, dishes unique to the Indo Gangetic plain and the North East take centre stage. And it’s the perfect glassed in space to unwind on a rain kissed afternoon with three super- fab lunch companions who are brilliant professionals and globetrotting foodies too. Chartered Accountant to Bollywood superstars and celebrities, Bimal Parekh is a much in demand celebrity himself, who also co owns Mumbai City FC with Ranbir Kapoor. Dr Nilesh Doctor, the highly knowledgable and experienced gastrointestinal surgeon at Mumbai's leading hospitals is a well-informed discerning foodie, As is the young international lawyer Bhakti Parekh, having worked in a leading American law firm now works in a top Indian law firm.
We enjoy the ambiance and the food. I dine here twice to check for consistency.
Banana trees, flowering frangipani trees, green plants, ocean blue
upholstery, white cane chairs, colourful bric a brac a reading nook…all enclosed in a glassed off space. A bookshelf with photos of all the pets who've dined here too.
For the uninitiated, the menu is a delicious tutorial on the Indo Gangetic plain’s regional dishes. Executive Chef Uddipan Chakravarthy ensures that each is a one dish meal, attractively served on a tray with suitable accompaniments et al. Muttar Kachori spiked with hing and paired with Ghugni and crunchy Kachumber is recommended. As is the Kashmiri Rajmaash , soft, melt-in-the-mouth kulcha stuffed with Kalhari cheese from Jammu, paired with Rajma.
Succulent lamb under a blanket of dahi, robustly spiced chapli kababs,
Tacos with desi spices and even the sattu paratha offer up an unusual taste spectrum. As does the makhana chaat. UP s Nimona dumpling curry with ajwaini paratha delights.
Ofcourse, there’s a special menu for dogs and cats.
